Gladys M. "Glady" (Madigan) Smith

Gladys M. "Glady" Smith, 93, of Herminie, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, in Transitions Healthcare, North Huntingdon. She was born April 15, 1924, in Monessen, daughter of the late George T. and Olive S. (Shoaf) Madigan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh J. Smith Jr.; her son, Tim A. Smith; twin brother, Glen Madigan; and four sisters, Lenora Madigan, Pearl Gettler, Irene Glass and Ethel Spoonhoward. Glady was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Edward Church, Sunshine Club, and also volunteered in the library at the school. She enjoyed reading and especially writing; she had beautiful penmanship and expressed her words thoughtfully. Family was always important to her; she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She would never forget to send birthday cards to all the relatives on their special day. Glady is survived by her four grandchildren, Allen (Emily) Smith, of Herminie, Nichoal DeWitt, of West Newton, and Christina (Jamar) Brantley and Jennifer (Mark) Sampson, both from New Jersey; seven special great-grandchildren, Scott, Breanne, Christian, Lauren, Jacob, Rya and Zaria; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Glady will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Edward Church, Herminie. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
