Angeline "Angie" Cortazzo, 94, of Darragh, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her family. She was born April 25, 1929, in North Braddock, daughter of the late Luigi and Carmela (Russo) Veltri. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carmine J. "Coco" Cortazzo Sr. in 2015; son, David Cortazzo; grandson, Kris David Cortazzo; two brothers, Albert and Joseph Veltri; and three sisters, Rose M. Elkin, Mary Castle Allen and Lucy Zezza. Angie was a graduate of Scott High School in North Braddock, Class of 1946. Prior to retirement in 1992, she was postmaster in Darragh for 25 years. Angie was an active member of St. Edward Church in Herminie, the Altar Rosary Society and Sunshine Club and St. Edward bowling league. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 8427 in Herminie and its ladies bowling league. She was also past president of the Hempfield Football Mothers Club in 1971-1972. and was a very active member of the Darragh Civic Association. Angie loved to travel and would enjoy visiting casinos near and far. She was an outstanding cook and made the best gnocchi in the world. She loved to bake and made thousands of cookies for holiday parties and weddings. Most of all, she enjoyed her special time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Angie is survived by her son, Carmine J. (Denise) Cortazzo Jr., of Home, Pa.; her daughter, Lynn Ann (Andy) Garber, of Wheeling, W.Va.; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cortazzo, of Greensburg; six special grandchildren, Cori Anderson, Beth (John) Flickinger, Scott (Jamie) Cortazzo, Brett Garber, Amy Garber and Conor Cortazzo; six special great-grandchildren, Carter and Brody Cortazzo, Hayden and Garrett Flickinger and Addelyn Garber and Noa Cortazzo; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family and the many friends she made over the years. Her smile and love for her family will forever be remembered. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, in St. Edward Church, Herminie, with Father David Nazimek as celebrant.
