Carl W. Miller

Carl W. Miller, 82, of Irwin, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 11, 1935, in Arona, son of the late Lawrence J. and Violet (Buzzard) Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Martha G. (Lash) Miller, in 1992; and a brother-in-law, Melvin Brown. He was an Army veteran. Prior to his retirement, Carl was a quality assurance technician, having worked for Carrera Corp. in Latrobe for a number of years. He taught the Pennsylvania Hunter/Trapper Education program at all of the area sportsman clubs for more than 45 years, He was an expert marksman who enjoyed all forms of competition shooting. Carl was a hunter, a fisherman and an avid gun collector. His memberships included the Irwin Sportsmen's Club, White Oak Rod and Gun Club, McKeesport Sportsmen's Association, the NRA and the American Legion Post no. 359 in Irwin. He is survived by his three daughters, Denise Sager, of Hecla, Christine (W. Ronald) Trout, of Gibsonia and Colleen (Jeff) Stubbs, of Erie; a son, Eric (Terri) Miller, of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Hope, Isabelle, Emma, Jacob, Cassie, Ali, Connor, Branden, Erica and Jessica; two great-granddaughters, Abbie and Odessa; a brother, Kenneth (Judy) Miller, of Irwin; and a sister, Mary Ann Brown, of Greensburg. He will be dearly missed by his family, many friends and neighbors. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the JOSEPH W. Interment with full military honors will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
