Charles A. "Charlie" Horwatt Sr., 82, of Irwin, died Friday, July 21, 2017, in Hempfield Manor, Greensburg. He was born July 3 1935, in Wendel, a son of the late Andrew and Kathryn (Wrobel) Horwatt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth O. "Betty" Horwatt, on June 10; and a brother, Andrew (Babe) Horwatt. Charlie "Mutt" was a Navy veteran and was proud to be a molder on the AD-17 USS Piedmont during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a machinist and a union carpenter. Charlie enjoyed spending time at his granddaughter's farm in West Virginia, while hunting and fishing with his family. He enjoyed going to yard sales and could always be found at L & L Fleatique in Adamsburg. He also enjoyed the horse races. Charlie is survived by his son, Charles A. "Chuck" (Hedy) Horwatt Jr., of Westmoreland City; and their children, Charles A. Horwatt III, Haley and Hannah Horwatt; a daughter, Debra (Rick) Sherman, of Newport News, Va. and their children, Matthew and Jacob Sherman; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his two special granddogs, Baya and Ammie. Charlie "Mutt" will be dearly missed by his family, friends, neighbors and especially his L & L family. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Anita "his angel" with Medi Hospice, who made Dad's last hours peaceful; also a special thank you to Don, Brian and Christian, dad's second family, for all their thoughtfulness and care over the past months.
