Dixie Lee Sever, 87, of West Newton, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022, in Jefferson Hospital after a five-year courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Nelsonville, Ohio, daughter of the late King David and Winifred (Betz) Thorne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joseph Sever Sr., this past January; her granddaughter, Kimberly Cesarek; and two brothers, David and Bing Thorne. Dixie was a member of St. Edward Church, Herminie. She enjoyed crocheting, attending bingo, puzzle books "word search" and playing cards "31." Dixie was an extraordinary, selfless, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She cared about everyone else but herself, always trying to help out and never stopped worrying about her family and friends. Dixie is survived by her two sons, Joseph (Ruth) Sever Jr. and Matthew James (Carla) Sever, both of West Newton; four special grandchildren, Joseph Sever III, Rebecca (Chris) Nelson, Matthew Sever and loving companion, Tammie Neyman, and Dustin Cesarek; two great-granddaughters, Haley and Reagan; two sisters, Betzy Leeper, of Acme, and Zane Duffy, of Hunker; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and neighbors. Her love for her family will forever be remembered. There will be no public visitation, per Dixie's wishes. JOSEPH W.
