Donald N. Kunkle, 76, of Irwin, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 12, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Luther and Elsie (Lash) Kunkle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Bussard. Don was proud to be an Air Force veteran, having served as a Phantom Fixer on the Da Nang Air Force Base in Vietnam. Prior to his retirement, he was a machinist, having worked for General Carbide in Greensburg for more than 30 years. Don was a paramedic for Sewickley Area Ambulance in the 1970s, where he met his loving wife, Joyce. Don was active in his church, Herminie United Methodist, and Christ United Methodist Church in McKeesport and was also active with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing. He also was involved with 4-H Club (Rabbits) and actually made 40 cages for his daughters’ pets. He was a family man and loved company, always waiting for someone to walk in the door. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. Don is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joyce A. (Wilson) Kunkle; two sons, Jerry (Michelle) Kunkle, of Arona, Ryan (Alicia) Kunkle, of Brookline; three daughters, Rachel Kunkle, of Irwin, Sarah (Dan) Brown, of Herminie, and Joelle (Nicholas) Morgan, of Rillton; eight special grandchildren, Daniel, Gavin, Levi, Oliver, Logan, Colton, Elliana and Karlee; a brother, Richard (Cheryl) Kunkle, of Irwin; and brother-in-law, George Bussard, of Greensburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the JOSEPH W.
