Edward B. Burkett, 61, of Herminie, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle of cancer. He was born July 14, 1954, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Fred B. Sr. and Dorothy (Ray) Burkett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Kozieniak. Prior to his retirement, Eddie was a truck driver, having worked for Univar in Bunola for more than 35 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, playing softball, hunting, fishing, golfing and especially loved gardening. He also accompanied the Boy Scouts on outings with his nephews, over the years. Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Cheryl Stubbs; three brothers, Fred Burkett Jr., of New Stanton, James (Gail) Burkett, of West Newton, and Spurgeon (Lisa) Burkett, of Williamsport; special aunt, June Barwiolek, of Cowansburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Hugo. Eddie will be dearly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for all their compassionate care and support. Per Eddie's wishes, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at West Newton United Presbyterian Church, Fourth and Main streets, West Newton, PA 15089, with the Rev. John Manon officiating. JOSEPH W.
