Frances M. Shagday

Frances M. Shagday, 96, of Herminie, passed away Wednesday, August  28, 2024 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Herminie, daughter of Polish immigrants, Charles and Frances (Szeremiota) Shagday. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three older brothers, Joseph Shagday, Victor Shagday, and Marion Shagdai; sister, Jenny Shagday; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Shagdai.Prior to her retirement Frances (Pinky) worked as a secretary for Westinghouse for over 40 years. A lifelong lover of jazz, she had a sizeable record collection and was a regular on the dancefloor in her youth. Aside from collecting records, she had an affinity for painting in her earlier years. She was a member of St. Edward Church in Herminie. She loved the color purple, tending to the neighborhood cats and birds, indulging in sweets, and playing her daily numbers. In her final days, she resided at Golden Heights in Irwin, cared for by the staff as well as her private caregivers, Joyce, Kathy, Vonnie and Mark. Frances (Pinky) is survived by her sister-in-law, Lucy Shagday; nieces Pat Shagdai, and Valerie Frances Shagday; nephew Tony Shagday; and many great- and grandnieces and grandnephews. Pinky will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.  Friends will be received from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Tuesday  September 3, 2024 at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. At which time a funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Edward Church, Herminie.
