George A. Foster Sr., 84, of Lowber, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 13, 2021, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, after a courageous 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Port Vue, a son of the late Howard and Margaret (Jackson) Foster. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his four sisters, Vivian Colebank, Bess Sherbondy, Rhoda Pasternak and LaVerne Aaron; and two brothers, Samuel and Joseph Foster. George was an Army veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was an equipment operator, having worked for the Sewickley Township Road Department for more than 30 years. He truly enjoyed retirement to the fullest, especially traveling as "snowbirds" to Florida with his wife each winter. He loved making wine and attending his garden. Pappy never missed a game or an event that the grandchildren participated in. George is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Loretta (Mlinek) Foster; two sons, George A. (JoAnn) Foster Jr., of Florida, and Scott (Linda) Foster, of Herminie, with whom he resided during his illness; five special grandchildren, Lacey Foster, Zachary Foster, Karissa (Jack) Kocerka, Sarah Pytlak and Ryan Belmore; two special great-grandchildren, Hannah and Luke; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends near and far. A special thank-you to his nurse over the past year, Lindsay, for all of her love and compassionate care. Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Edward Church, Herminie. Please go directly to the church. Interment with full military honors will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
