Ida P. (Tomkon) Kubik, 94, of Lowber, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, in Briarcliff Pavilion for Specialized Care, Irwin. She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in West Newton, daughter of the late Andrew and Eva (Golus) Tomkon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. “Chess” Kubik; son, Charles V. Kubik; grandson, Marc Johns; son-in-law, David Johns; brother, John Tomkon; and sister, Bernice Hinerman. Ida was a member of St. Edward Church in Herminie. She was one of the original organizers for the Lowber VFD Ladies Auxiliary and was co-founder of the Herminie Harmonairs Senior Musical Entertainment Group. She was also a classroom aide at the Lowber Elementary School for many years. Ida loved playing cards with the ladies card club, and her baking and cooking will be dearly missed by her entire family. Ida was a designer seamstress, making wedding dresses, western clothing, men’s suits, and the list goes on. She also enjoyed doing alterations for her family and friends and crocheting afghans and snowflakes. Any item you needed Ida would make it with her love and special touch. Ida is survived by her two daughters, Janet Johns, of Herminie, with whom she resided, and Rose Marie Kubik, of Pittsburgh; two sons, Daniel A. Kubik and LaVerne Weaver, of Lowber, and Wayne A. Kubik, of Versailles Borough; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She also has numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Edward Church, Herminie. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
