Jacqueline M. "Jackie" (Kiehl) Smayda

Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Smayda, 86, of Herminie, died Friday, May 12, 2017, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late William and Marie (Halley) Kiehl. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Smayda; stepmom, Alice (Tinstman) Kiehl; two brothers, Paul and William Kiehl; and a brother-in-law, Ken Ray. Jackie attended the Norwin Christian Church in North Huntingdon. She loved to crochet and embroider clothing for her family and friends. She worked for the Nickels Funeral Home as a greeter for many years. Jackie is survived by her three children, Michael Smayda, of Pittsburgh, James Smayda, of Herminie, with whom she resided, and Alice (Smayda) Moffitt, of McKeesport; a son-in-law, Scott Moffitt; two grandchildren, Raymond Barnett III and Erin Barnett; a sister, Jean Ray, of Ruffsdale; and a sister-in-law, Patti Jo Kiehl, of Montana; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Jackie will be dearly missed by her family, friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Westmoreland Hospital and Excela Hospice for all the love and care over the past month. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, with Pastor Terry Erwin officiating. Interment will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, Irwin.
