Janet Marie Ellen (Futscher) Gabonay

Janet Marie Ellen Gabonay, 84, of Herminie, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, in AHN Forbes Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born April 9, 1939, in Greensburg, daughter of the late Earl and Florence (Morvetz) Futscher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley (Tom) Rogachesky; and her nephew, Barry Rogachesky. Janet was invested a Benedictine Oblate in December 2008 by Father Donald Raila and took the name Odilia. She was a life member of St. Edward Church in Herminie, Saturday Night Dinner Club, Altar Rosary Society, Parish Council, Family God Prayer Group of Seton Hill, Sunday Drivers golf league and the St. Edward's prayer group. She worked at Sterling Box Factory in Jeannete, Hughes Aircraft in LA and Laurel Legal Services in Greensburg. Janet opened Gabonay Catholic Store in March of 1993 and loved the store and all the customers and people that she dealt with over the years. Janet is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Eugene (Gene) Gabonay; son, Jeffrey (Maria) Gabonay, of North Huntingdon; daughter, Linda (Scott) Foster, of Herminie; five special grandchildren, Karissa (Jack) Kocerka, Sarah Pytlak (Chris Naples), Jason and Adam Gabonay and Zachary Foster; two special great-grandchildren, Hannah and Luke Kocerka; brother-in-law, Donald (Linda) Gramlich; sister-in-law, Diane (Rod) Florek; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special cousins. Janet will be dearly missed by her family, friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank Dr. Greenberg of AGH who took care of her since her illness started in 2015. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME, 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, in St. Edward Church, Herminie, with Father Vincent Yee Concepcion as celebrant. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. A Divine Mercy Chaplet will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, followed by the Holy Rosary.
