Joseph Sever Sr., 90, of West Newton, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, in Jefferson Hospital. He was born March 21, 1931, in Keystone, PA, a son of the late Mirko and Mildred (Vargo) Sever. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kimberly Cesarek; two sisters, Margaret Sever and Helen Nalepa; six brothers, John, James, Walter, Frank, Paul and George Sever. Joe was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was a shop supervisor-mechanic, having worked for Scholl Tractor Sales Inc., Elizabeth. He was a member of St. Edward Church, Herminie. Joe enjoyed gardening and hunting. He loved to play euchre, boating and tinkering in his shop. He was a member of the Herminie VFW Post No. 8427. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dixie Lee (Thorne) Sever; two sons, Joseph (Ruth) Sever Jr. and Matthew James (Carla) Sever, both of West Newton; four special grandchildren, Joseph Sever III, Rebecca (Chris) Nelson, Matthew Sever and loving companion, Tammie Neyman, and Dustin Cesarek; two great-granddaughters, Haley and Reagan; two brothers, Tom Sever and Robert Sever, both of West Newton; two sisters, Nancy Roshon, of West Newton, and Mildred McBeth, of Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. There will be no public visitation per Joe's wishes. JOSEPH W.
