Karen L. (True) Detar

Karen L. Detar, 73, of Rillton, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Lash, a daughter of the late Melvin C. and Catherine (Wolf) Detar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Detar II; a sister, K. Elaine Serman; a brother, James True; and sister-in-law, Sarah True. Karen was a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church in Herminie, Altar Rosary Society, Sunshine Club and Prayer shawl. She loved to cook, bake and especially spend time with her granddaughter. Karen is survived by her two daughters, Julaine M. Detar, of Rillton, and Giovina L. (Brian) Weber, of Herminie No. 2; sweet granddaughter, Breanna Weber, "grandma's special girl"; a brother, Charles (Rita) True, of North Huntingdon; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Karen will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Edward Church, Herminie. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. A St. Edward Parish rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
