Karen Mae (McCall) Huey

Karen Mae Huey, 87, of Irwin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at St. Anne Home, Greensburg, surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Rimersburg, PA, daughter of the late Robert Maxwell and Ann (Cunningham) McCall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond C. Huey, in 2021; her twin sister, Karel Rice; and her brother, Robert S. McCall.

Karen is survived by her two sons, Robert (Debbie) Huey and Thomas (Melissa) Huey, both of Irwin; two granddaughters, Angela and Alyssa Huey, whom she adored; as well as several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Karen was a graduate of Johnstown High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She earned a Master’s degree in Music Education from Duquesne University. Karen retired from the Yough School District in 2005 after a long career as a music instructor and choir director. She later retired in 2019 from the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Greensburg, where she had the pleasure of serving as the Minister of Music for over 30 years. As a loving wife and mother to three avid sports fans, Karen graciously participated as a spectator at many sporting events. However, her true passion was music—a love she shared with thousands of students through general music, piano, and chorus.

The family would like to thank Rochelle and her colleagues at St. Anne Home for their empathetic and loving care during Karen’s stay, as well as Maureen and Sherry from Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days. Karen will be dearly missed by her family, friends, students, and neighbors. Her special love for music will forever be remembered.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 S.  Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601, followed by a celebratory lunch at the same location.
