Lauretta Stanley Obituary

Lauretta B. (Flanigan) Stanley, 75, of Yukon passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024 in Indepence Health Westmoreland Hospital,  surrounded by her loving family.  She was born Feb. 14, 1949, in Greensburg to the late Thomas C. and Margaret O. (Stafford) Flanigan.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Jim, Bill, and Butch Flanigan; three sisters, Betty Flanigan, Donna Krance and Carol Kopko and nephew Thomas Flanigan. 

Lauretta began her employment as a second-shift sweeper cleaner at Westinghouse in 1975 with a supportive manager who gave her a typewriter and told her to learn to type.   Over the next 36 years, she not only learned to type, but also earned her Bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University where she was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.  In addition to her primary job, Lauretta passionately served as a union representative, advocating for the rights of her colleagues.  She was an active member of the Nuclear Information Records Management Association, and actively promoted and advocated for the advancement of women in nuclear industries.  Throughout the years, she grew into an International Nuclear Projects Manager and traveled and worked around the globe, including the Czech Republic, Belgium and Brazil.  She earned many commendations over the years, including the distinct honor of earning the George Westinghouse Signature Award of Excellence in 2000.  She retired from Westinghouse in April of 2011.

Simultaneous to her career at Westinghouse, Lauretta earned a Certificate of Pastoral Counseling from Seton Hill University, spent countless hours volunteering and eventually became employed through the Diocese of Greensburg as a director of religious education at several different parishes, including Seven Dolors, St. Peters, St. Annes. Her passion for the Lord and commitment to her family, friends, children and compassion were unwavering and she touched the lives of so many.

Lauretta is survived by her two daughters, Danielle Sethman of Yukon and Michelle Stanley-Joyce of Yukon and her companion Julian Kuszaj of Greensburg; seven special grandchildren Nicole Davis, Holly Davis and fiance Tanner Predajna, Alex Sethman, Abigail
(Shane) Burns, Mikayla Sethman and fiance Hunter Kline, Hannah Joyce, and Faith Joyce; eight special great-grandchildren Rylan, Aubrey, Luna, Olivia, Jaxen, Fisher, Leighton and Jameson; two sisters Nina Dyer of Madison and Bernie Flanigan and her special friend Chrissy Robinson of Yukon; and numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.  

Lauretta will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors and will forever be remembered for her love of church.  

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Joseph W. Nickels Funeral Home Inc., 404 Sewickley Avenue, Herminie PA, 15637, 724-446-7251.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Edward Church Herminie with Rev. David J.
