Lois Heaverly Obituary

Lois Jo Heaverly passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at the age of 95, in Soldotna, Alaska. Lois was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Shaner, the only daughter to the late Alfred and Iona (Piovesan) Dyson. Lois grew up in the Shaner area, marrying her true love, George Heaverly, on Feb. 14, 1946. George and Lois made their home in Pennsylvania, where their two sons, Dale and Gerry, were born. In 1957, the family made the long trek to Anchorage, Alaska, where they settled in Anchorage and built their log home on DeArmoun Road. They continued to live in their home for over 60 years, raising their sons and welcoming grandchildren. George and Lois shared a loving marriage of over 67 years. Lois's cooking skills, beautiful annual garden, summer flowers and homemaking skills were legendary. She was an exceptional quilter and was gifted with an artistic ability in many areas. Her quilts and porcelain dolls won numerous blue ribbons at the Alaska State Fair and Anchorage Fur Rendezvous. Lois was full of energy and always busy. She spent many years with George, flying in their Super Cub, enjoying their remote cabin, as well as many years of hunting and fishing trips. They enjoyed their life in Alaska and were true pioneers. Lois loved the Lord with all her heart, serving Him throughout her entire life. She served as a Salvation Army officer for several years in Anchorage and was proud to wear the uniform. She eventually retired from her many years at the Anchorage Pioneer Home, enjoying her retirement alongside George. Upon George's passing in 2014, Lois's health soon began to suffer. She moved to the Kenai Peninsula, where she could be closer to family. Eventually, she moved to her son Gerry's home, where he cared for her through her final years until her death. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, George Heaverly, of Anchorage; son, Dale Heaverly, of Yuma, Ariz.; and brothers, Alfred and Dennis Dyson, of Shaner. Surviving family members include son, George (Gerry) Heaverley; grandchildren, Shannon Ferkingstad, Celestial (Craig) Fisher, Georgeanna Heaverley and grandson, Benjamin (Melyssa) Heaverley; nine great-grandchildren; as well as her brother, Donald Dyson. The family would like to extend their deep thanks and appreciation to Dr. Alexandra Davis, Chaplain Frank Alioto, and the nursing staff at Central Peninsula General Hospital for their compassion and loving care during Lois's final hours. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at The Church, 1683 Mars Hill Road, Sutersville, PA 15083, at which time a service will be held in The Church with Pastor Frank Rocco officiating.
