Mary Helen Coccagna, 97, of Lowber, peacefully passed away Monday, June 2, 2025, in Newhaven Court at Lindwood, Greensburg, surrounded by her family. She was born May 23, 1928 in Lowber, daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Petrulak) Suchko. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mario Coccagna in 2019; sister, Ann Mamrak, and seven brothers, Mike, John, Charlie, Paul, George, Nick, and Andy Suchko.
Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Herminie. She loved gardening and enjoyed doing yard work. She was an expert at pulling weeds. She was also the best Halupki maker in Lowber, making thousands, over her lifetime. Mary enjoyed all family gatherings, and the “louder the better,” as she would say. Spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her happy.
Mary is survived by her son, Frank (Felicia) Coccagna, of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Cheryl (Ken) Knor, of Herminie, and Rita (Mike) Aujay, of Lowber; seven special grandchildren, LuGina (Frank) Dickson, Rebecca Knor Joyner, Rachael Knor (Andrew) Davis, Joshua Coccagna, Peyton, Logan and Milan Aujay; three special great-grandchildren, Grace, Claire and Luke; a sister-in-law, Betty Ann Suchko of Belle Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mary was a special lady inside and out , and was so giving. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors. The family would like to thank the staff at Newhaven Court for all their love and care given to their mom.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday , June 6, 2025 at JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, 724-446-7251. Parastas service will be held Friday at 7:30p.m. in the funeral home.
The Panachida service will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in the funeral home. A funeral service with the Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Herminie, with Father Vasyl Yakubych as celebrant.
