Mary Montini, 97, of Herminie, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in Cranberry Place, where she had resided for the pasts four years, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 20, 1924, in McCullough, daughter of the late John and Louise (Bischan) Grdijan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Montini; son, Jerry Montini; son-in-law, Lonnie D. Nicklow; brother, John Grdijan; five sisters, Katie Perkins, Elizabeth Bruno, Agnes Butkovich, Martha Deragowski and an infant sister. Prior to her retirement Mary had worked for the Yough School District in the cafeteria and then in the deli department at Foodarama in Madison for many years. Mary was a life member of St. Edward Church in Herminie and was a past member of the Sunshine Club. She was proud to be a Charter member from 1947 -2007 (60 years) of the Rillton VFW, Post 8518 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and especially cooking. She was famous for her spaghetti sauce and homemade noodles. Mary is survived by her son, Raymond (Tammy) Montini, of Waynesboro; a daughter, Mary L. Nicklow, of Sewickley; three special grandsons, Raymond Montini, Anthony (Amanda) Montini and Lonnie C. (Caitlin) Nicklow; 10 special great-grandchildren, Dominic, Mia, Sofia, Leo, Georgia, Anthony "Sonny", Luca, Lonnie C. Jr. , Miles and Grier; brother, Richard (Annette) Grdijan, of Ohio; sister-in-law, Nancy Grdijan, of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251, followed by a funeral Mass at noon in St. Edward Church with Father Vincent A. Yee Concepcion as celebrant.
