Mary Plassio, 93, of Hutchinson, peacefully passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025 at her home , surrounded by her family. She was born June 14, 1932, in Edna, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Maughan) Luzar.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Luzar and sister, Zella Adams.
Mary was a talented seamstress and love to sew. She especially enjoyed making quilts, comforters, and aprons for her family and extended family. She served as den mother for Cub Scout Pack 240. She was a 70 -plus year member of the SNPJ and served as secretary for lodge # 683 of Hutchinson. She loved music of all kinds and especially enjoyed polka and square dancing with her husband. She was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson and a member of Saint Edward Church in Herminie. Mary was a devoted, wife, loving mother and cherished “Grandma Mary” to her granddaughters and great - grandchildren, she always treated with a pack of M&M’s. In 2010 she was inducted into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame for having voted in every November election for at least 50 consecutive years.
Mary is survived by her loving husband and care giver, of 73 years, William A. Plassio; two children, and Joan ( Len) Garzarelli of Manor, William S. (Debbie} Plassio of Irwin; four special granddaughters, Angela Garzarelli and fiancé Aaron Tamasy, Billie Joy (John) Budner , Nikki ( Mike) Shannon, Jess (Bill) Streiff; seven special, great - grandchildren, Michael, Alaina, , Natalie, Olivia, Cameron, Nicholas , and William; siblings, Kassy Polivka, Ruth Abbate, Vi Waryanka, Marty Luzar, Bill Luzar, and Ginny Stepinsky; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 pm , Tuesday at the Joseph W. NIckels Funeral Home Inc. 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am , Wednesday in St. Edward Church, 120 St. Edward Lane, Herminie, PA. 15637 . Please go directly to the church.
