Matthew Rendulich, 91, of Rillton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 27, 1925, in Versailles, a son of the late Peter and Mary (Stajduhar) Rendulich. Matt was proud to be a US Army veteran, having served during WWII , and landing in Normandy on D-Day. He was the recipient of the Soldier's Medal of Honor for his bravery. Prior to his retirement, Matt was the owner and operator of Matt's Furniture Store located in North Versailles. He was one of the first discounters in the furniture business. His first store, initially located in Rillton, was on the other side of his duplex home. He ran the store during the day while working the third shift at Westinghouse at night. A successful businessman, he moved his store to a larger venue on Route 30 in North Versailles and opened a second store in Jeannette. Matt was a proud member of St. Edward Parish in Herminie, the Sunshine Club, the Rillton VFD and the Rillton VFW Post. Matt was also on the board of directors with the First National Bank of Herminie. Matt and his wife, Mary, loved to travel, especially snow-birding to Florida every winter. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed dancing and most of all loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann, Florence and Evelyn Rendulich; and his brother, Anthony Rendulich. Matt is survived by his loving, caring wife of 65 years, Mary (Belmondo) Rendulich; his six children, Norine (Blair) Andrew, of Baltimore, Md., Marilee Rendulich, of Redlands, Calif., Patti Suchko, of Irwin (friend, Jim Beattie), Matthew (Chris) Rendulich, of North Huntingdon, Tom (Karen) Rendulich, of Wallingford, and Lora Rendulich-Klipper, of Sparks, Md.; eight special grandchildren, Colleen (Greg) Brosman, Elyssa Suchko (fiance, Ray McKinnon), Madalyn (Steve) Sirota, Nicholas Rendulich, Caitlyn Suchko, Samuel Andrew, Lillian Rendulich and Rylan Klipper; special great-granddaughter, Haley Rendulich; sister-in-law, Carol Rendulich, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Matt's smile and sense of humor will forever be remembered. His love for his family and friends will remain in their hearts forever. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jim Gabonay, Matt's friend and caregiver, along with all the extraordinary nursing staff who cared lovingly for him during his illness.
