Michael A. Scherff, 65, of Jeannette, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, in UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh. He was born May 19, 1950, in Jeannette, a son of Thelma G. (Fishell) Scherff, of Jeannette, and the late Edward V. Scherff. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John E. Roose Sr. Mike was an Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement he was a chef, having worked for numerous prestigious restaurants. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Together and happily married for 27 years, Mike is survived by his loving wife, Tracy L. (Roose) Scherff; his two daughters, Elizabeth A. Scherff, of Herminie, and Nicole L. Scherff, of Pittsburgh; his two sons, Steven M. (Megan) Scherff, of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Shain R. Scherff, at home; three special grandchildren, Veta, Troy and Gage; two sisters, Vicki (Ronald) Loughner Sr., Rose (Patrick) McLaughlin; a brother, Edward G. (Cathy) Scherff, all of Jeannette; mother-in-law, Patricia Roose, of Hutchinson; three brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his special pets, Cheyenne and Gus. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251 A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at noon Monday in the funeral home with Father Jonathan J. Wisneski, JCL, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the family.
