Pauline Shaffer, 90, formerly of Rillton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Huntingdon. She was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Denbo, a daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Vecchio) Fiume. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Shaffer, in 1984; two brothers, Frank and James Fiume; and two sisters, Jennie Ogg and Louise Beckwith. Pauline was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved to crochet and listen to polkas daily. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers. Pauline is survived by her two sons, Donald A. (Colleen) Shaffer, of Greensburg, and John P. (Mona) Shaffer, of Smithton; three daughters, Donna J. (Bill) Kaminsky, of Wendel, Patricia A. Luhovey, of Irwin, and Paula M. (Bill) Cummins, of Huntingdon, with whom she resided; 10 special grandchildren and six special great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; a brother, Anthony (Mary Ann) Fiume, of North Irwin; five sisters, Mary Hyatt, of Florida, Theresa (John) Mosch, of Missouri, Rose (Roland) Wingo, of Florida, Josephine Sardinas, of Florida, and Margaret Pavsek, of Herminie No. 2; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Smith, of Irwin, and Mary Shaffer, of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Huntingdon Hospice, especially Beth, for all her love and compassionate care. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
