Philip G. Svesnik Jr., 73, of New Stanton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Dec. 24, 1947, in Rhode Island, a son of the late Philip Sr. and Helen (Maczuga) Svesnik. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Svesnik. Phil was an Army veteran. He received his bachelor’s in business administration from Robert Morris in 1970 and his master’s in information science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1981. Prior to his retirement in 2012, Phil was employed as CIO of Westmoreland County for 28 years. He was director of data processing for P&LE Railroad for 16 years prior. He was also an instructor for the University of Pittsburgh and Westmoreland County Community College for more than 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and was really looking forward to their yearly trip to Destin, Fla., for the winter. Phil is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra A. (Flesik) Svesnik; his daughter, Rachelle Austin and her husband, Eddie, of Somerset; two brothers, Frank Svesnik and his wife, Sherry, and Jimmy Svesnik and his wife, Debbie, both of Herminie No. 2; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Phil will be dearly missed by his family and many, friends near and far. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A private family and friends funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
