Richard M. “Rick” Critchfield

Richard M. "Rick" Critchfield, 77, of Herminie, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born April 4, 1945, in Greensburg, a son of the late William C. and Lois A. (True) Critchfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Guthrie; and two brothers, Ronald W. and Robert C. Critchfield. He was proud to be a graduate of the Sewickley Class of 1963. Prior to his retirement, Rick was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 50 years for numerous trucking companies. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Irwin. Rick was part of the Wagoneer Society, having participated in the Appalachian Wagon Train. He loved cutting everyone's grass in the neighborhood. Rick was a referee for soccer and basketball and a softball empire and coach over the years. He loved to play volleyball in the mornings with his buddies and even went up to sit and watch when he got sick. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, cooking and having pizza parties. He was a true friend and helped everyone he could. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Catherine "Cathy" (Stusnick) Critchfield; three daughters, Cindy (Greg) Hoffman, of North Huntingdon, Gretchen (Dave) Beers, of Rillton, and Rebecca (Dane) Stegman, of Elizabeth; son, Joseph R. Critchfield, of Irwin; six grandchildren, Ben, Justin and Josh Hoffman, Nick and Allie Beers and Grayse Critchfield; a brother, Raymond (Christine) Critchfield, of Harrisburg; a sister, Tammy Houser and Bill Collins, of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Rick will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Excela Hospice for their loving care and support.
