Ronald W. "Butch" Mellinger, 40, of Herminie, passed away suddenly Sunday, March 20, 2016, at his parents' home. He was born July 2, 1975, in Jeannette, beloved son of Patrick R. and Susanne R. (Bolam) Mellinger, of Herminie. Butch was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Ruth Mellinger; his maternal grandparents, Charles Sr. and Anna Bolam; and his uncle, Ronald (Weasel) Mellinger. Butch was employed by the Westmoreland County Housing Authority in Greensburg as a mechanic/maintenance worker for the past 17 years. He was a social member of the Herminie VFW Post 8427 ad was past president of Steelworkers Union Local 3034. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, guns and loved camping with his family and friends. Butch made a friend everywhere he went. He was a true black and gold Steelers fan, also cheering along with the Pirates and Penguins. His pride and joy was his two daughters, and spending time with them was always a special day. Butch was a family man who took exceptional care of his maternal grandparents before their passing. His love for life was measured by all his friends he made over the years near and far. In addition to his parents, Butch is survived by his two special daughters, Kaitlyn and Carly, and their mother, Jennifer Mellinger, of Monongahela; his brother, Patrick J. "P.J." Mellinger, of Herminie; his sister, Jamie VanDivner and her husband, Albert Jr., of Belle Vernon; his niece, Lauren VanDivner, and nephew, Albert VanDivner III; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, who will miss him dearly. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Michael A. Milinovich officiating. Interment will follow in Madison Union Cemetery.
