Rose Marie Shoben, 97, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Lowber, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021. She was born May 9, 1923, in Smithton, a daughter of the late Anton and Antonia (Strah) Lawrence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Shoben; three brothers, August Lawrence, Rudy Lawrence and Frank Lovrince, and two sisters, Mary Gaidosh-Contrella and Emma Klus. Rose is survived by her son, John (Patti) Shoben, of Florida, granddaughter, Chelsea Shoben, of North Carolina, grandson, Michael Shoben, of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Rose retired from Control Inc. of Irwin, and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Byzantine Church, Herminie. She was a long-standing member of the Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ) of Herminie as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Lowber Voluntary Fireman's. Rose had a passion for bingo, polka dancing and trips to the casino. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends near and far. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251, at which time a parastas service will be celebrated in the funeral home with Father Michael Huszti. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's Byzantine Church, 5 Second St., Herminie, PA 15637, in memory of Rose.
