Thomas J. Bourke Sr. , 83, of Herminie, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 in Greene Health & Rehab, Greensburg, surrounded by his family. He was born May 13, 1942 in Greensburg, a son of the late Thomas P. and Veronica (Bohinc) Bourke.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Diana Bourke-Schrum and sister-in-law, Susan Bourke. He was a graduate of Sewickley Twp. High School and then attended Carnegie Technical Institute (Carnegie Mellon University).
Tom was a proud US Navy Seabee ( MCB 53) veteran stationed in Da Nang while having served during Vietnam. Prior to his retirement, he was an electrical engineer having worked for Westinghouse Transportation for more than 30 years. He also had worked as a financial advisor for Raymond James ( Wolf Financial) in Apollo. He was a loyal member of St. Edward Church. Tom was an avid golfer, and a faithful black and gold Steelers season ticket holder. He also enjoyed traveling across the pond back to Ireland to visit family and friends. But most of all he will be remembered for his punny jokes, and special times he spent with his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan (Trimmer) Bourke; two sons, Thomas J. (Yvonne ) Bourke Jr. of Bridgeville, Greg Bourke and partner Melissa Genareo of New Castle: two daughters, Mary Ruderstaller of Arizona and Maureen Bourke of Level Green; daughter-in-law, Rose, Bourke, of Whitaker; four special grandchildren, Emily, Steven, Nichole, Gregory; a brother, Michael Bourke of Erie; brother-in-law, Steve Schrum of Latrobe; beloved cousin in Ireland, Maureen, O’Donnell, and many other special Irish family members; and dearly, beloved neighbors, the Pany family; in addition to many nieces and nephews, great -nieces, and great-nephews.
Tom will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. The family would like to thank the staff at Greene Health & Rehab for all their love and compassionate care given to Tom.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm on Monday , April, 27, 2026 at the Joseph W. Nickels Funeral Home Inc. 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in St. Edward Church, 120 St. Edward Lane, Herminie, PA,, with Rev. David Nazimek as celebrant. Please go directly to church. Interment with full military honors will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
