Vera C. Johnson

Vera C. Johnson, 89, of Herminie, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 19, 1934, in Herminie, daughter of the late William F. and Myrtle (Wilson) Johnson. Vera was a member of the Sewickley High School Class of 1952. After high school, she began working with I.N. Hagan Ice Cream and then Country Belle Dairy, both in Greensburg. She then worked for MAWC as a teller. After her retirement in 1996, she enjoyed working for FNB in Herminie. Vera loved quilting, traveling and eating out with her friends. She also enjoyed sitting outside with Joe enjoying the sunshine. Vera was very active in Herminie United Methodist Church. She started as a Sunday school teacher, then as a youth director for 17 years. She was also a trustee at he church and became secretary. She was also a member of the Friendly Circle Bible Class, loved doing the garage sales and was very active with the church quilting group. She was also president of the United Methodist Women. She always appreciated all the help she received during those years. She also served her community as a senior Girl Scout and helped at the library with various duties. She was also a treasurer of Wineland Grove Cemetery in Herminie. Vera was also a dispatcher at the Sewickley Township Ambulance and a greeter at the Nickels Funeral Home for many years. In her later years, her dear friend, Joe Jarmon, was her caregiver, taking her shopping and to her doctor appointments. She was also grateful to Debbie Gentch ,Daren Dedo and Margaret Troutman; along with Darlene Callaghan, Shirley Lynch and a host of other friends whom she loved dearly. Vera is survived by her companion and caregiver, Joe Jarmon, of Herminie; several cousins; and the many dear friends she made over the years. She will be dearly missed, and her love for her community will forever be remembered. A caring, loving, wonderful friend is what she was, to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. A special thank-you to the staff at Redstone Highlands and Redstone@Home Hospice for all their love and care given to Vera. Per Vera's wishes, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, in Herminie United Methodist Church with Pastor Barry J. Henck officiating.
