Vermell J. "DoDo" (Pollard) Wilson

Vermell J. "DoDo" Wilson, 87, of West Newton, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, in Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. She was born July 24, 1929, in Lemont Furnace, a daughter of the late James R. and Hannah J. (Pollard) Harris and the late John J. Thompson Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. "Fats" Wilson Jr., in 2011; her granddaughter, Devin Wilson; and three brothers, John J. Thompson Jr., Kenneth Thompson and Calvin Thompson Sr. DoDo was a member of St. James Baptist Church in Fitz Henry and was a beloved Sunday school teacher. She was the biggest fan of her daughters' dance teams KWDC and Yough. She enjoyed attending all dance competitions, cheering the girls and guys to victory. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She also loved to go to bingo and was known as "Mom Wilson" as a band parent still to this day. She was a member of the Eastern Star in West Newton, a Cub Scout leader and den mother for many years and also loved to swing on her front porch, waving to all cars passing by. DoDo is survived by her son, James E. (Sharon) Wilson, of West Newton; daughter, Kellie Wilson, of Herminie; six grandchildren, Jordan VanDyke, Stephen, Seth, Sady, Shayn and Samuel Wilson; three sisters, Eleanor (Herbert) Mays, of Pittsburgh, Mabel Jordan, of West Mifflin, Lois Harris, of Franklin, and Jackie Harris, of Uniontown; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by her "other daughters", Christy Yuhas, Tiffany Lash, Marilynn Moore and Gertrude Copeland and families. DoDo's smile, hugs and caring ways will be dearly missed by her family, extended family, many friends and neighbors near and far, to all who by then she was "Grandma" to all. Friends will be received 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert E. Strader officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
