Wade E. Tompkins Jr., 83, of Adamsburg, went to be with the Lord, peacefully in his sleep, on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023, at his hunting camp in Clearfield County. He was born April 11, 1940, in Greensburg, son of the late Wade E. and Doris Mae (Dean) Tompkins Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Captain Wade A. (Barbara) Tompkins; and two sisters, Carol (Jay) Bushnell and Tammy Tompkins. Prior to his retirement, Wade was a carpet installer for Larry Lint Flooring in Wendel for 47 years. He had also worked for Volkswagen in New Stanton as an assembler for 10 years and, prior to that, he was a custodian at Hempfield High School, his alma mater. Taxidermy school meant everything to him. He loved going to camp to go fishing and trapping, it was his life and his passion. Wade was a member of Norwin Church of the Nazarene and one of the founding members of Calvery Assembly Church in Irwin. When he was unable to attend church, he loved to listed to Pastor Frank Rocco on the radio. Wade is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda (Heltebran) Lash Tompkins; his daughter, Wendy (Don) Lock, of Jeannette; two special grandchildren, Jesse Wade Lock and Savannah Joy Lock; two nephews, Jay Bushnell, of Jeannette, and Jeff (Amber) Bushnell, of Butler; Linda's children, Mechelle (Chris) Hutchinson and family, Melinda "Mindy" (Butch) Wolfe and family, and Melissa "Missy" (Bill) McGrew and family; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. Additional visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, in The Church, 1683 Mars Hill Road, Sutersville, PA 15083, at which time a service will be held with Pastor Frank Rocco officiating.
